Train Your Brain Podcast logo

Today is Episode 310 of the Train Your Brain Podcast. Welcome to the show! Dr. Trayford’s brain training tip for the day is to turn on your vacation replies. The line between our professional and personal lives has become very blurred. We need that time away and in most cases everything else can wait until we get back from vacation. Setting up a notification on your e-mail or voicemail that you are “out of the office” lets people know not to expect a quick response. They can make other arrangements to take care of issues and when you get back you can focus on work again with a refreshed mind. Hopefully there will be fewer e-mails to respond to. Thanks for listening!

Ep. 309 – How a Lost Arm Led to Struggles in a Business Man’s Brain

Happy Monday Train Your Brain Podcast listeners! Today on Episode 309 Dr. Trayford your host and brain training coach reviews a case study of a man who lost an arm and how it affected his brain function. The man lost his arm as a child when a homemade pipe bomb went off and he had to have his arm amputated. As an adult he started having brain issues, seemingly unrelated to his amputated arm but in fact they were related.

The Homunculus is an image of a man, showing the body parts in proportion with how in-tune the brain is with each area. The hands and mouth for example are exaggerated in size since the brain and nerves are most sensitive there. Let’s consider the two main aspects of brain function: sensory and motor. The brain often sees the body differently than we really are or as others see us. This can affect how your brain works and thinks. So, when an event like an amputation occurs, the brain has to recalibrate the way it processes the body.

The tip for today is tending to old injuries. Some injuries such as tearing a ligament or damaging cartilage need to be fixed. If not, over time it can affect the brain. Find a qualified Chiropractic Neurologist anywhere in the world if you have an old injury that could have affected your brain function.

Ep. 302 – Should Diabetes Medications Be Used to Prevent Diseases Like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s?

Happy Monday Train Your Brain Podcast listeners! Today we are going to discuss a controversial new treatment plan for the prevention of diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Doctor Trayford explains that doctors are now prescribing diabetes medications as a way for regulating blood sugar in the brain which is usually linked to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Episodes 92, 99, 106 and 121 are on blood sugar so feel free to go back and give those episodes a listen so that you can more fully understand the effects of blood sugar on the brain. Dr. Trayford has taught us that fuel to the brain is important. Though, instead of regulating blood sugar through medication, it would be optimal to first turn to lifestyle improvements. There is a time and a place for most interventions. So, talk to your doctor.

The tip for today is to skip the carbs on the buffet line. Load up on veggies and protein instead and save your brain from a blood sugar trip. Thanks for listening!
